Bruckner played a teenager in Blue Car (2002). The character was a young girl who had an affair with her teacher David Strathairn. Roger Ebert wrote in his review of the film that Bruckner handles this difficult story with total ease. Bruckner won one Independent Spirit Award as "Best female role" for her performance. She grew up with two brothers and one sibling. Hungarian is her native language, which she practices regularly in order to remain fluent. Bruckner was a Californian from Hollywood, being born of Hungarian parents as well as Russian mothers, who divorced. Her paternal grandmother was German. She is the daughter of Hungarian parents who met in Hungary. Her family emigrated into the U.S.A. via an Italian refugee camp in 1984. The siblings of her are two sisters and a brother.
